University Counsel is responsible for the coordination and management of all legal matters affecting the University. This role is to advise the President and the University’s academic and administrative units regarding a wide range of legal issues related to contracts, regulatory compliance, administrative and employment law, intellectual property, data privacy, student conduct governance and more. Additionally, the University Counsel collaborates with the Connecticut Attorney General’s Office to represent the University and its agents in both judicial and administrative forums. The goal of University Counsel is to provide quality legal services promptly and effectively, and to assist in minimizing legal risks and costs efficiently, reliably, and professionally while supporting the University’s mission.
As the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, the Vice President is the University’s Ethics Compliance Officer and Freedom of Information Commission Liaison. This role also oversees the University’s compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, including but not limited to Title IX, Affirmative Action, Title VI, Title VII, ADA, FERPA, Clery Act and NCAA regulations. The Vice President serves on the University’s Threat Assessment Team, Facilities Planning Committee, as well as the Sexual Assault and Interpersonal Violence Resource Team.
